While much of this season’s focus will be on the top of the Premier League, there will be an equally exciting battle at the bottom of the table as clubs look to avoid relegation from English football’s top tier.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the three promoted clubs find themselves heading into the season as the betting favourites with the likes of Paddy for the drop, but there will be plenty of twists and turns this year and football fans will be well aware that predicting the three clubs that will be relegated is a far from easy task.
At this early stage of the season, it’s probably fair to see Burnley as the overwhelming favourites for relegation in the odds. After achieving promotion from the Championship on a relatively small budget, the Lancastrians have stuck to their guns and refused to spend huge sums of money in a bid to avoid the drop this season. Instead, Sean Dyche will be hoping the team spirit that helped the club achieve promotion will be enough to keep the club in the top tier this year.
QPR may have bounced back into the top flight at the first time of asking but it hasn’t stopped the Londoners being tipped by many to drop right back down into the Championship this season. Following the ridiculous spending the club did during their last visit to the Premier League, Harry Redknapp hasn’t been given huge sums to spend on players ahead of the new campaign and it remains to be seen whether the club have done enough to survive this season.
Leicester City ranked among the Championship’s highest-spenders for at least three years before finally securing promotion last season after cruising to the league title. Nigel Pearson has again been given the backing of the club’s ambitious owners and City definitely look to be the strongest of the three promoted clubs heading into the new Premier League season.Â
